On August 5th, 2008 I gave a speech to a Toastmasters group located in Reston, VA. My thesis was that our relationship with others is driven by our personal economic policies.
I made the connection with how we conduct our affairs on a personal level, for example what we choose to spend our money on, will affect our relationships. A spendthrift married to a miser will not enjoy matrimony. As a country within a globalized economic system, any spending or conserving by our government will directly affect other nations. Trade embargoes for example help or hurt other nations, including ours. In business, the relationship that the CEO has with the Accountants can easily affect the numbers and the livelihood of hundreds, perhaps thousands of employees.
My colleagues at Toastmasters were left with an important question that I'll ask here:
What's your personal economic policy? Do you have one?
