As the author of this book, I can tell you that it was written with a lot of people in mind. When I began my career as a Recruiter in 2006, the economy was barely showing signs of slowing down. By the time I entered my second year in 2008, the economy was headed towards a crash. In 2008 I met so many people that were not only worried about their jobs but actually unemployed.
This book was my small way to help some of these folks. It is a reaction to the fear that started to grip all of us – even those of us in the recruiting industry – and an opportunity to help many more people than I could meet in a day, month or year. As mentioned above, you will find examples in history where we have persevered as a young country but some of that can seem so far away so I also focused on personal stories of perseverence that will likely resonate with you. Examples as simple as:
- Failing a college course (the whole thing for 0.0 credit)
- Getting chased by a dog and deciding to stop running
- What finding a parking spot has to do with finding a job
- Working with the young philosophers of our time -local musicians
The lives of my friends and family have been adventures and mine has been no exception. I have found that personal courage is not something you have to find but rather something you have to just believe. Do you believe you will survive until tomorrow? Do you believe you are an exception to the mediocre?
What is written here is motivational and practical. There are time tested principles of hard work and personal conviction that is as true today as they were during the early days of Benjamin Franklin, Andrew Carnegie and even Bill Gates. These are people that as I have read about, I have come to admire more. This book was written with my family in mind and my own personal struggles. It kept me focused during a time in my personal history that seemed to directly reflect the shared struggle of our national economy.
