About
A firm built around what families actually need next
Jason Howell Company is a fiduciary registered investment adviser in Fairfax, Virginia. We accept no commissions and no referral compensation from the specialists we introduce to clients.

Wealth has a history of its own
That line opens Jason Howell’s book, and it describes most of the families we work with. They are first-generation wealth creators. Nobody handed them a manual, and the isolation that comes with a sudden change in circumstances is rarely discussed out loud.
So the firm was built to handle more than the portfolio. Financial planning sits alongside a documented family governance process, a resilient-investing lens on how the money is invested, and a philanthropic practice led in-house. Around that we coordinate the independent professionals a family needs — legal, tax, trust, insurance, banking, and family dynamics — around one plan rather than scattered across six.
We do not claim to be the expert in everything. We are the firm that brings the right experts to the table and keeps them pointed at one plan.
Leadership
The two people accountable for your plan

Jason J. Howell
President | FAMILY Wealth Adviser
CFP®, CPWA®, CSRIC®
Jason founded his namesake firm to help successful families navigate life after wealth—aligning investment strategy, family governance, philanthropy, and long-term planning across generations. His work recognizes that families are stewarding wealth through a period of significant economic and geopolitical change and focuses on helping them preserve not only their wealth, but the relationships, values, and purpose that give it meaning.

Douglas W. Tees
Chief Operating Officer | FAMILY Wealth Adviser
MBA, CFP®, CAP®
Douglas Tees leads operations and the firm’s detailed planning work. He serves clients by getting into the details of their finances that many advisers find too tedious, and he leads most of the firm’s ad-hoc client meetings. Employer benefits packages are a particular specialty.

What we do differently
Three disciplines, run properly
Not because they are fashionable, but because families at this level need all three and are rarely offered any of them.
Family Governance
Family governance is the structure a family uses to make decisions about shared wealth — a mission statement, a family constitution, and regular family meetings. Jason Howell Company runs a documented multi-step process that produces those artifacts, so values transfer to the next generation alongside the assets.
02Resilient Investing
Resilient investing builds portfolios for long-term value across changing economic and climate conditions. Traditional analysis is combined with infrastructure, hard assets, and inflation-hedging strategies, alongside the environmental, social, and governance screens the firm has applied since 2020 — the discipline more commonly labeled sustainable investing.
03Proactive Philanthropy
Proactive philanthropy means planning charitable giving during your lifetime rather than leaving it to your estate. Jason Howell Company works with donor-advised funds, community foundations, and private foundations, and holds the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation in-house through its Chief Operating Officer.
