Jason J. Howell

Jason founded his namesake firm to help successful families navigate life after wealth—aligning investment strategy, family governance, philanthropy, and long-term planning across generations. His work recognizes that families are stewarding wealth through a period of significant economic and geopolitical change and focuses on helping them preserve not only their wealth, but the relationships, values, and purpose that give it meaning.

Jason’s view of wealth was shaped long before he became a wealth adviser. As the son of an immigrant father, he grew up with an appreciation for the opportunities American institutions can create—and an awareness that those institutions and opportunities cannot be taken for granted. His earlier work in banking, accounting, music, higher education, entrepreneurship, and politics reinforced a consistent lesson: financial decisions never exist apart from families, communities, and the historical conditions surrounding them.

This is why Jason Howell Company does not treat investment management, family governance, and philanthropy as separate conversations. He believes families need all three to steward wealth through periods of economic and generational change.

Jason writes a monthly Letter to Stakeholders on the macroeconomic forces reorganizing the global economy and is the author of JOY of Financial Planning. He holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Certified Private Wealth Advisor®, and Chartered SRI Counselor™ designations, and serves as a board trustee at the Arlington Community Foundation.

Jason has served as adjunct faculty to the next generation of advisers at George Mason University, his alma mater, in the Costello College of Business course Introduction to Financial Planning and Wealth Management. He is Chair Emeritus of Mason’s Financial Planning and Wealth Management Advisory Board and serves on the investment committee for the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees.
