How to Fight Hunger and Climate Change

Jason Howell |

"Be conscious, be wise about you handle food; about how you prepare food; about the food waste that you're creating. Be aware of your neighbor. One of the unfortunate benefits of food insecurity going through the roof with the pandemic was, the people in high food security, overnight, became food insecure. Of no fault of their own. And that's often what happens. We think that people choose to be or put themselves in the position to be food insecure but there are so many random circumstances that happen. So be aware of your neighbor. And as a community let's help each other out. And food is an easy way to do that. Whether it's volunteering, donating to your local pantry, helping out with the distribution, let's help each other out; be a community. And let's take care of this very basic need for everyone."

- Aaron Tolson, CEO, Northern Virginia Food Rescu

What if I told you there was a way to support #2 and #13 of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals? And that if you lived in and around the Commonwealth of Virginia, you could see this impact locally? Listen in to Aaron Tolson, CEO of Northern Virginia Food Rescue as he describes the history of this young organization that is using their Food Rescue Hero technology to rally a community of millions. County by county, neighborhood by neighborhood, Aaron and his team have a not-so-secret mission to end hunger in Virginia or at least ensure that food is accessible to everyone who wants it. All we have to do is eliminate food waste and as a byproduct, reduce methane gases which will preserve the atmosphere on our planet #WinWinWin

Watch until the end where we make a major philanthropic announcement.

Here are a few of the questions Aaron was kind enough to answer:

  • Out of all of the "causes" in the world, why hunger?
  • What is "food access," "food security" and "food resiliency?"
  • Tell us more about your "community feeding taskforce
  • How has your "Food Rescue Hero" app made the difference?
  • What are your short-term and long-term goals?
  • How can we help?

Jason Howell Company is an independent, family wealth management firm run by two owners who believe you should feel good about money.

Jason J. Howell, CFP®CPWA®CSRIC® and Douglas W. Tees, MBACFP®  are each married to patient wives and are dedicated to their kids. Jason and Doug have built a firm with a great reputation. The firm is based in Northern Virginia but serves clients (virtually) all throughout the United States.

Our firm owners believe that dual-income parents with high achieving kids want to feel good about their financial success. They just need to know how. You have a plan for your life and causes you believe in. We fit that plan to your finances so you can feel confident, excited, generous, hopeful and good about your money.

Our process begins with our responsible Investment Strategy and by equipping our clients with three (3) tools for creating wealth that's well, useful:

  1. Your Personal ROADMAP (PR) which identifies 40 to 60 recommendations to improve your financial plan (the "what")
  2. Your Implementation Guide (IG) which priorities (by month) when you ought to implement those recommendations (the "when")
  3. Your Family Constitution (FC) which clarifies how those recommendations connect to your values (the "why")

We call this process Family Governance. It goes beyond traditional financial planning by adding a "values" component. Whose values? Your values
