Why "JOY of Financial Planning?"
What do we mean by "Joy of Financial Planning?" We mean having the ability to say "I am in harmony, I have enough, I am in balance, I am safe, I will have a legacy, I have opportunity and I have time. In summary, we mean you have the ability to chase your American Dream and change the world for the better. How's that for "joy?"
These seven (7) joys of financial planning above are what we create for our clients. Our mission is to make good people more powerful. We empower people by educating them on the strategies of economic mobility; in other words, the ability for individuals or individual families to raise their economic status. Money won't solve all of your problems but it does get people's attention. And once we have someone's attention, we can tell that person what we know about the world:
- Politicians are "boxed in" professionally: support the good ones (if you can find one) but we can't expect government to fix us (or all of our problems)
- Academics are boxed in: support pre-K and higher education but we can't expect academia to rescue us (or our children)
- Spiritual leaders are boxed in: practice your faith but we can't expect religion or "the church" to save us (or our dreams)
Our problems outnumber our institutions. Our challenges have overwhelmed our systems. Today, we are the ones that must fix ourselves, rescue our communities and save each other. The more of us that "get right" financially are the more of us who can "do right" by our fellow human beings.
I play many roles in my daily life but see myself primarily as a teacher and a student. I learn all I can about money with the goal of helping my family, surely, but also educating my community. When the people understand money, the people will be better able to take care of themselves and each other. When that happens, they are free to climb Maslow's hierarchy of needs towards self-actualization aka the American Dream. With that power comes responsibility but my hypothesis is that there are more good people in the world than otherwise. The more people I can educate, the better this world will become.
OUR POWER
We have always had the power to make the world a better place. We just forgot who the "we" was: the we is you and me. I have heard it said that the opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's complacency. Most of us face personal economic challenges like dealing with the cost of healthcare, housing and college costs. But we are also faced with challenges that impact our entire community: disease, poverty, racism, global warming and so many others. We cannot begin to impact any of these challenges without first getting our financial house in order. This is why I created the JOY of Financial Planning: 7 Strategies for Transforming Your Finances and Reclaiming the American Dream. It's an upcoming book, it's a podcast, a Facebook Group and it's also an overall philosophy of the Jason Howell Company. We believe that we can become the change we want to see in our world.
